The self-steering windvane is known in the sailing world as the best crew member on board.  It does not complain, sleep, or get seasick. A self-steering windvane is at the top of most offshore cruisers’ lists as an essential piece of equipment to have aboard, and the Monitor is considered to be the gold standard. Requiring no electricity and with only a few basic components–rope, gears, and a paddle, it steers the boat for us! Ingenious!

Here is a 90 second clip from MorseAlpha Expeditions on how the windvane works:

Seawater Pro Water Makers

Seawater Pro is a company based out of Florida that specializes in DIY water makers. They do all the hard research for you on the different components needed and the best kind of pumps, membrane housings, etc. They use all off the shelf components that are all easy to find worldwide, making fixes abroad a breeze. Fingers crossed. Mike was very communicative with us and answered any questions we had on the water maker itself and the install. We got the 12 volt version so we will be making our own water using our solar panels. Of all the DC systems we researched, this one has the highest output (17-19 gph). Talk about carbon neutral and self sufficient!

Here’s an affiliate link for anyone interested in installing their own Seawater Pro water maker!

Prana makes well made clothes that not only withstand the rigors of a life at sea (sun, salt water, and dirt) but they make clothes that are stylish while trying lessen our impact on the planet. They choose fabrics that wont break down into micro-plastics and are sustainably sourced. We are proud to be partners with Prana not only because their clothes are made with the environment in mind but they also just make really quality clothing.

Beverly and Dick are very near and dear to our hearts. They have been our inspiration from the start. When Daniel was a kid, Beverly and Dick sailed to Spain and met up with Daniel’s family. That interaction is what opened up his world to cruising. Beverly and Dick sailed the world for 14 years together on their 33 foot Halberg Rassy and have some really incredible stories and lessons they have passed down to us. We feel like we are following in their footsteps and what awesome footsteps to follow!

Eric and Cindy Eicher (Daniel's parents. Hi Mom!)

A HUGE thank you goes to Daniel’s parents Eric and Cindy. They have been SO supportive of our decision to live this alternative lifestyle. Not once have they questioned our judgment. When they offer advice Emma and I have learned to both take note. Thank you both so much!

Kemp and Melanie Davis (Emma's parents)

Also a big thanks to Emma’s Dad Kemp! He is also 100% behind out sailing dream, and as a professional photographer has helped us hugely in our social media game. He is also managing our rental property in San Antonio, giving us peace of mind that our home is in good hands while we are away! Emma’s mom passed away from cancer right before we bought the boat. However, she supported this lifestyle 100%. Being an adventurous soul herself, she understood the value in global travel. Even though she is not here physically, she is with us the whole way.

Our beer patrons...you know who you are. Thanks for keeping morale high!
